Robert Faulkner Obituary

Robert R. Faulkner, loving husband, father, grandfather, and businessman who had an affinity for fedoras, died Feb. 1 at 87. He was married for 57 years to his heart’s desire Pamela (Crossley) Faulkner.

Born Jan. 14, 1934, Bob was raised in Attleboro, Mass. by the late Herbert and Ruth (Cunliffe) Faulkner. He was predeceased by his patient and erudite sister Jean Archard and her steadfast husband Calvin.

Bob’s work ethic manifested early. From childhood through high school he peddled the streets of Attleboro for his Dawn Delivery newspaper route. He continued working through college and served in the U.S. Army. Bob was a dedicated class officer and rarely missed reunions for Attleboro High School, Dartmouth College, and Tuck School of Business.

Although the company name changed several times, Bob was employed by the same financial institution in Boston and Providence for nearly 60 years. He relished his work and close relationships with colleagues and clients.

Bob and Pam raised three children in Barrington where the family was active with St. John’s Episcopal Church and Bob was a member of the vestry and led spirited fund drives.

Bob kept close ties with friends and relatives in his esteemed Attleboro, where he ran businesses and restored buildings downtown.

Serving as a director for Amica Mutual Insurance Company gave Bob great pleasure. He was president of Friends of the Barrington Senior Center, and a board member at St. Andrew’s School.

He was a proud member of the Anawan Club, Providence Art Club, Rhode Island Country Club, and BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Bob championed land trusts as protectors of the places he lived and loved: Attleboro, Barrington, and Westport, Mass.

He had a penchant for dancing, sending valentines and postcards, and leading Christmas carols at large gatherings. In retirement, Bob developed a passion for playing the piano and performing new songs for bemused friends and family online.

Besides Pam, he is survived by his three children and their spouses: Katherine Faulkner and Dan Codiga of Jamaica Plain, Mass., Tim and Erica Faulkner of Barrington, Andrew and Deborah Faulkner of Barrington and grandchildren Katherine, Hayden, Grace, Helen, Leo, Sam, and Margaret. All promise not to eat the rolls before dinner is served.

Due to safety concerns the burial and visiting hours will be private. We plan to hold a large celebration of life in Bob’s memory once the health crisis is over.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 191 County Rd, Barrington, RI 02806 or by visiting www.StJohnsBarrington.org
