Phyllis Ann (Guild) McDevitt, 92, of Barrington, passed away peacefully in East Providence on Monday, January 24, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. A resident of Barrington for close to 60 years, Phyllis was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Church and a member of Young at Heart Seniors. Born in Brighton, MA, Phyllis was the only child of Charles and Helen (Coakley) Guild. Phyllis graduated from St. John’s High School in Cambridge, MA and attended Emmanuel College in Boston, MA.
Phyllis was the beloved wife of Joseph V. McDevitt (deceased 1995) for over 43 years. She is survived by her eight beloved children: Joseph (wife Won Young), Kathleen (deceased husband Thomas), Thomas (deceased wife Barbara), Michael (wife Elizabeth), Laurie (husband Matthew), Ellen (husband Neil), Charles (wife Nancy) and Kerrie (husband Richard), 17 cherished grandchildren: Joseph, Ahnna, Meaghan, Tara, Rory, Clare, Shannon, Bridget, Neil, Kelsey, Peter, Riley, Keegan, Owen, Delaney, Siena and Hudson and 7 adored great-grandchildren: Quinlan, Paul, Aedan, Max, Lilli, Kay and Peggy. Phyllis and Joe took immense pride in their family, supporting and loving each member unconditionally.
Phyllis worked as a teacher’s aide for Barrington Public Schools for over 20 years, retiring in June of 1995. An avid reader and lover of books, she shared this passion with everyone–her students, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family, faith, kindness and love were central to Phyllis’s life. She had an innate ability to make those around her feel special. She will be extremely missed..
