Marcia Hess

Marcia Hess, 82 of Warren, RI passed away September 9, 2022 at the HopeHealth Hulitar Center, Providence, RI

Marcia was born in Providence, Rhode Island and was the daughter of the late Gwendolyn Fairchild and John R. Hess. She leaves one brother Peter Y. Hess of Bristol, R.I. and was predeceased by her other brother Stephen K. Hess of Rehoboth, Mass.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Mike Gonzalez and Ian Baube.  She is survived by her daughter Michelle Gonzalez of Warren, RI and step children, Michael and Clark Gonzalez of Maryland.

She graduated from Barrington High School, Mary Hitchcock Hospital School of Nursing and went on to earn her master's degree.  She worked at NIH, Holy Cross Hospital and Howard University in Washington, DC.  While at Howard University she taught CPR, which at the time was introducing a new method of resuscitation to doctors and traveled to islands in the Caribbean teaching CPR.

After moving back to Rhode Island, Marcia remained quite active and established a long list of friendships via the German Club in Warren, The Elks Club in Bristol, and other weekly gathering spots. She was very active with various bridge clubs in Rhode Island and enjoyed the high levels of competition. 

Hog Island, where she spent many summers, was extremely important to Marcia, and she was able to relish her elder status in her later years there. Her happiest memories of the island were the gatherings which she often hosted. Marcia was a great storyteller, a vivacious reader, and absolutely adored being with people.

There will be church service for Marcia at Barrington Congregational UCC, 461 County Rd., Barrington, RI at 11:00AM on Friday, September 23rd.
