Judy, who lived in Barrington for over 50 years, passed away at Brookdale Sakonnet Bay in Tiverton on December 9, 2022 at the age of 96.
Judy was born to Lucy Alden Griffiths and Stanley Griffiths in Stafford Springs, Connecticut on April 22, 1926. She attended Katherine Gibbs and graduated from the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, where she began her nursing career and met her husband, Robert J. (Bob) Janes. Her work as a nurse continued at Rhode Island Hospital and as a school nurse for the Barrington school system until her retirement.
A devoted member of St John’s Episcopal Church in Barrington, Judy served regularly as a volunteer for various church projects and a member of the church’s Altar Guild.
As members of the Barrington chapter of the American Field Service, Judy and her family hosted many AFS students and delighted in sharing food and customs of those visitors from across the globe. She and her family welcomed Siri Maungpruan of Thailand as a third daughter from 1971 to 1972.
Judy was predeceased by her husband, Bob, in 1999, and her sister, Elizabeth G. Alexander, of Honolulu, Hawaii in 2018. Survivors include her daughters, Heidi Janes (John Deveau) of Tiverton, and Beth Nesbitt (Richard Nesbitt) of Williamstown, MA, her AFS daughter, Siri of Bangkok, Thailand, and her 5 grandchildren.
