Jay A. Morrell, 51 of Riverside, RI passed away at home on September 6th, 2023. He was the beloved son of the late Norman Morrell and Barbara Morrell. He is survived by his mother and his six siblings – His sisters Lee Lefranc and her husband Albert, Susan Ellinwood and her husband Paul, Sandra Falcáo, his brothers Jeffrey Morrell and Paul Morrell, and sister Lori Dutra and her husband Michael. In addition, he is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews.
Jay attended East Providence School as well as The Meeting Street School. After completing his education, he joined the ARC of Blackstone Valley, where he completed various jobs including helping to deliver Meals on Wheels and sorting recyclables. He was involved with the ARC for thirty years. Jay also participated in the East Providence Recreation Department Program for Special Needs. He was an athlete in the Rhode Island Special Olympics, winning numerous medals in swim and track. Jay was also a member of the Wampanoag Warriors swim team.
He enjoyed going out to eat, and hobbies such as dancing, and attending summer concerts in the park. He loved country music, movies, and his trips to Disney World.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday September 13, 2023, 11:00 AM at Swan Point Cemetery, in The Redwood Chapel, 585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI 02906.
In lieu of flowers, Jay’s family requests donations be made to the Rhode Island Special Olympics.
