Janet Morrison Obituary

Janet Darling Lane Morrison 99, of Barrington, RI, died peacefully at her home on Thursday,
December 14, 2023. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Stewart Morrison,
and son, John Stewart Morrison, Jr. Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of George
Earl Lane and Eleanor Darling Lane of Pawtucket and Sunderland, MA.

She attended the University of Rhode Island but transitioned to a nursing career and eventually
marriage. After raising her children, she embarked on completing her degree through the URI
Continuing Education Program in Providence. She worked for several years in the medical
administrative field while pursuing her B.A. and graduating with honors in 1975.

She was an active member of the Barrington Congregational Church for over 65 years, serving
as a Deacon and on many committees including the Social Action Committee. Her commitment
to social justice was evident through her advocacy, including a trip to Washington, DC to lobby
for the Rhode Island Peace Mission. Later in life, she joined the Women of Faith group, relishing
the joy of reading purely for pleasure and engaging in spirited conversations about current
events.

She was a tutor for Literacy Volunteers of America and taught ESL to an adult student from
Venezuela. She and her late husband also volunteered at local soup kitchens. One of her
greatest passions was the Boston Red Sox. Since the age of 16, after crawling under a garage
door to get Ted Williams autograph, her devotion to the Boston team never waned. A true fan!

A warm and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, she delighted in leaving surprise gifts
for her grandchildren and ensured the cookie jar was stocked with everyone’s favorite treats.
An avid reader who loved walks to the beach and cherished time with family and neighbors on
her porch in the warmer months, Janet continued these traditions well into her 90’s.

Even in her later years, she was a familiar sight in the neighborhood, greeting fellow walkers
and her many dog friends. Janet was beloved by her neighbors, the community and all knew her
over so many years. Though she will be deeply missed, Janet’s legacy will endure in the hearts
of all who were privileged to know her.

Janet leaves a daughter Ann M. Doran (husband, Peter) of Barrington, RI, a son Samuel L.
Morrison (wife, Sherri) of Menifee, CA, two grandchildren Molly Doran Lux (husband, Tim) of
Stowe, VT, and Lane A. Morrison of Campbell, CA, and one great-grandchild, Marsden Doran
Lux of Stowe, VT.

A memorial service will be held at a later date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers,
contributions in her memory may be made to Barrington Congregational Church, 460 County
Road, Barrington, RI 02806 https://bccucc.org/donation/, or HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative
