Irene (Lurje) Lagergren

 93, of Barrington, died peacefully on October 2, 2020.  Born in Paris, France, she was the daughter of Malia and Georges Lurje, both of whom died in the Holocaust. Following her emigration to United States in 1947, she worked in New York for International Flavors and Fragrances as a perfume sniffer.  In 1980, Irene and her late husband, Alan, moved to Barrington, where they lived for many years. Irene had a true love for animals, especially cats, of which she adopted many throughout her life. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels and a member of the Barrington Women’s Club.  In 2009, Irene moved to Atria Bay Spring Village in Barrington where she was a resident for 10 years before moving to Grace Barker Nursing Center.  She loved her time at Atria, and the care she received at both facilities was unmatched. Irene is survived by her primary caregiver, Jody Kelsey and her husband, Tom, of Barrington, as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A private service will be held at a later date.
