With deep love and sadness, we share that the world lost a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Catherine (Kay) Flaherty, on April 5, 2026. Catherine was 85.
Catherine faced lung cancer with courage and grace, and it never stopped Catherine from giving the best hugs. Catherine was the heart of our home and family. Married to Thomas Flaherty for 26 years, Catherine built a warm, joyful household. Catherine was known for a hearty laugh and a good glass of wine—the kind of generosity and warmth that made everyone feel welcome and cared for. As a grandmother to Drew, Christopher, Michael, Nicholas, Nathan, Brittney and Ashley, Jack, Kieran, Nolan, Elizabeth, Hannah, Colby and Tucker. Catherine was proudly the “fun grandma.” Catherine planned exciting outings every summer, and delighted in spoiling the grandkids rotten. Those memories—filled with laughter, adventure, and unconditional love—will be cherished forever.
Catherine was the heart and soul of our family, and Catherine’s absence leaves an ache words can’t capture. At Catherine’s request, there will be no church services. Instead, in the spirit Catherine embodied, Catherine asked that we share a laugh and raise a glass in celebration of Catherine’s journey home. May we honor Catherine by loving one another well, laughing often, and never passing up the chance to give a great hug and share a good glass of wine.
