Violet A. Vogel

Violet E. A. Vogel passed away after a long illness on April 18, 2019, during Holy Week.  Violet was born in Ridgewood, NY, on October 6, 1925.  She was the daughter of the late Henry and Violet K. Vogel.  Violet’s sisters Charlotte Brown, Grace Hard and their husbands predeceased her.  Violet is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Violet was immersed in the Christian community, which would be her life support from an early age. Upon completing high school, Violet attended Providence Bible Institute (PBI) in Rhode Island to train to be a missionary.  Upon completing her studies at PBI, she served as a missionary with the African Inland Mission (AIM) in the Belgian Congo working with woman and children.  After returning from the Belgian Congo she resided in Riverside, Barrington and Warren, RI.

Violet was the administrative assistant to the Treasurer at Barrington College for many years.  Upon closure of the college, Violet was the church secretary for Barrington Baptist Church prior to her retirement.

Violet was a long-time member of Barrington Baptist Church. For many years she was the Missions Secretary for missionaries who were and continue to be supported by the members of Barrington Baptist.  Violet loved studying and sharing the Word of God with those she met.  She enjoyed attending many Bible Studies, including Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), where she shared her scripture knowledge.

Violet was a kind and loving person to all who knew her. Her strongest witness of her love of Christ was her hospitality to others. Violet was always willing to prepare a meal for guests in her home or deliver the meal to those who were sick, on the birth of a child or just in need of some encouragement.   

The family would like to thank Crestwood Nursing Home for taking care of and watching over Violet. We appreciate your kindness, thoughtfulness, and most of all, your caring ways.

A celebration of Violet’s life will be held on May 11, 2019 at Barrington Baptist Church, 25 Old County Road, Barrington, RI, at 11:00 o’clock.
