Filippo, Richard G., 72 of Woodcrest Drive, Riverside died Saturday at the RI Hospital. He was the husband of Bonnie (Norton) Filippo and they have been married for 49 years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Alfred and Florence (McVay) Filippo and was a lifelong resident of Riverside. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gregory R. Filippo of Barrington, a daughter, Kimberly A. Filippo of Rumford, a brother James Filippo of Little Compton, three grandchildren, Samara, Lilyana & Liam Filippo of Barrington and several nieces and nephews. Richard was an Agent for the New York Life Insurance Company until retiring. He was awarded the Million Dollar Round Table multiple times. A lifelong athlete, he was a member of the Riverside Little League team in 1964 playing in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA and was a member of the Clark & Son Championship Softball Team. He was also a pitcher for East Providence High School and Valley Forge Military Academy and Barrington College. He also coached the Central Little League Team as well as the Riverside Little League Team. He loved coaching and was a past Vice President of the Riverside Little League and coached the Riverside Middle School Baseball Team. He was also the Exalted Ruler of the East Providence Lodge of Elks for eight years. There will be calling hours on Friday November 30th in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home 398 Willett Avenue Riverside from 3:00PM to 5:00 PM with the funeral at 5 PM. People are invited to gather at the Madeira Restaurant at 6:00 PM for a collation.
