John (Jack) M. Thomas

Jack Thomas, age 82, passed away on May 6, 2018 after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his daughter, Stacey Rodehorst, of North Kingstown, RI and son, Tim Thomas of Randolph, NJ. Jack, a long-time resident of The Ocean State, lived in Barrington, RI since 1971, after several years in Massachusetts. He was born in Lakewood, Ohio, the son of the late Marietta Teevans Thomas, and Richard Joseph Thomas. He had two siblings, Patricia Thomas, and the late Richard Thomas. Jack was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame in 1957, where he earned a BS degree in Business Administration. He proudly served in the Armed Services as a First Lieutenant in the Army, attached to the Air Force, from 1958 through 1960, where he found his love of planes.  He remained in the US Army Reserves through 1963. After his service, he worked for Prince Matchabelli in sales management and then went on to found Cal-Ric Packaging.  His next two jobs took him into the world of specialty advertising, first with Martek, based in Barrington and then on to Heritage Design, which he founded in 1984, where he embraced being his own boss until his retirement in 2016.He loved living in Rhode Island, watching TV, especially Law and Order, reading, fast cars and planes. He had a sweet tooth for cheesecake and Ghirardelli brownies, enjoyed cruising in his Porsche, lobster dinners, and cherished spending time with family and special friends. Jack leaves behind his sister, Patricia Thomas of Bethesda, MD, his two kids, Stacey and Tim, their spouses Andy and Cheryl, four grandkids - Maya, Connor, John Andrew and Charlie. Jack's warm heart, love for good conversation, smart business acumen, good sense of humor, and love for Words with Friends will never be forgotten. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4-7:00 P.M. in the Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave, Riverside. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, at 10:30 AM in Saint Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington. Burial will be private.
