Anthony Scavongelli Obituary


Anthony J. "Tony" Scavongelli 73, of Barrington and N. Ft. Myers passed away on Sunday October 28, 2018 following a long illness. Tony passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family shortly after the Red Sox clinched the World Series. He was the husband of Martha (Hughes) Scavongelli.
Besides his wife he leaves, one son, Andrew J. Scavongelli of Barrington, two daughters, Lori Ann Scavongelli of NC, Julie Ann Scavongelli of Warwick, one sister Georgann McTomney of MA, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Anthony M. Scavongelli and brother of the late Lorraine Considine. Born in Boston, Tony had a life long love of baseball. He coached Little League in Barrington for a number of years. An avid Red Sox fan, for 20 years he spent many days each March at their spring training fields in Ft. Myers where he loved to watch the enthusiasm and follow the progress of the young players.In summers, he enjoyed boating on Narragansett Bay and it's surrounding waters.Martha's Vineyard was a special favorite.During the early 1960's, Tony served in the US Army stationed at Headquarters Special Troops Personnel, Seoul, Korea.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Avenue, Riverside, RI 02915. Per the request of the family burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: ICU Family Room Fund at the Miriam Hospital P.O Box H. Providence, RI 02901-9979  Tony spent his last weeks in the ICU/CCU at Miriam where he felt great comfort and was surrounded by compassionate, expert medical and spiritual care. He referred to the hospital as a "nice community."
