J. Parker Scott Obituary

Scott, J. Parker, of Fountain Avenue in Barrington died on January 30, 2018 at home with family by his side.  He was the retired Chairman of Red Farm Studio Co. after a 42 year career in the Greeting Card industry.

He was born in Providence to the late James R. Scott and Elizabeth (Graves) Scott.

He was the beloved husband of Claudia Humphrey Scott.  They were happily married for 63 years.  Scotty and Claudia made Barrington their home for their entire married life.

Besides his wife he is survived by sons Thomas Humphrey Scott (Caroline) of Bristol, Steven Parker Scott (Lucia) of Portsmouth and daughter Kimberly Scott Goyette of Barrington.  He also leaves 5 grandchildren, Ryan Thomas Scott (Nika), Trevor Humphrey Scott, Shane Parker Scott, Taylor Cawley Scott and Mia Thuy Goyette.  Also a great granddaughter Kaja Claudia Scott.

Scotty graduated from Moses Brown School, attended Bowdoin College and received a Bachelor’s Degree from Bryant College in 1955.  During these years he had the good fortune to compete as a track hurdler in the old Boston Garden and the original Madison Square Garden.

In the community he was a past member of the Barrington School Survey Committee, Barrington Price Stabilization Board and also the Barrington Board of Recreation.

He was one of the 4 founding members of the Barrington Boosters Club, served on the vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church and a past Secretary of the Barrington Yacht Club.

Scotty was a long time Director on the Board of the Union Mutual Insurance Co. later becoming the Union Insurance Co. of Providence.  He was also a past Chairman of the Board of the American Cancer Society – RI Division, member of the University Club, To Kalon Club and the Greeting Card Association.

His Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2018 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, County Road, Barrington at 11:00am.  Contributions in Scotty’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 1 State Street #200, Providence, RI  02908.
