Specht, Evelyn J.(Lynn) of Barrington, Rhode Island and Palm City, Florida passed
away on January 6, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents Byron and Evelyn Kingsbury, and by her son in law J. Stephen Fink. She
was born and raised in Chicago, where she met the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) H. Specht. They were married in 1950, and the ensuing 67 years were as she said “a really good run” filled with family, friends, activity and travel. She collected a group of ‘life long friends’ from the many places she lived over the years - that’s just who she was. Always a warm and welcoming hostess and an excellent cook she could make any event a party. Over the years, Lynn was involved in a variety of organizations including Hospice, the Barrington Garden Club and the Handicraft Club of Providence. She volunteered and raised funds for Hospice, Stepping Out and the Moses Brown School. She was an active member of the Rhode Island Country Club and the Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club where she enjoyed golf, tennis, paddle tennis and bridge. At the heart of everything was family where she provided a wonderful example as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence (Larry), her children Linda Specht Fink,
Suzanne (Jim) Ashmore, Donna Specht and Lawrence (Michelle) Specht. She is
also survived by her devoted grandchildren Sarah (Michael) Kokko, Andrew
(Alessandra) Fink, Emily Fink, Timothy (Hayley) Ashmore, Abigail and Katherine
Ashmore, Katherine, Emma, William and Caroline Specht; and three great
grandchildren, Sophia and Chloe Fink and John Connor Kokko. Lynn will be
greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice in Providence, RI,
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, or Stepping Out, part of the Grodon Center
in Providence, RI providing social and recreational opportunities for those with
developmental disabilities.
